As their saying goes, “You should have bought it when you saw it in Mardens”! Mardens has been a Maine staple for years with some of the best hidden values. You really never know what you’ll find there, so it’s best to stop by often. With locations throughout central Maine in Waterville and Lewiston, this is a must stop.
Unlike Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, which incidentally is owned by the same company, offers products at varying prices, but still offers plenty of great discount values. With more locations in Central Maine than any of our other discount stores on the list, you should easily be able to find one near you. Based in Rhode Island, Ocean State Job Lots has grown and expanded throughout New England. It’s a great discount store to score a variety of items. They always have a perfect selection of seasonal items, as well as a unique selection of food items. Currently nearby shops are in Rockland, Belfast, Oxford and Bangor. There has been heavy speculation that Augusta will be the first Central Maine location….hopefully soon!
Caswell Wholesale Discount
Caswell’s is a discount store specializing in food and groceries, but they also carry other general merchandise. Some people call it a “scratch n’ dent” store, Caswell’s has an incredible variety of items. I really like that you can find groceries that you won’t find anywhere else except maybe in other parts of the country. This should be a must stop with only one place in Waterville worth the trip.
This is another discount chain with locations nationwide. Some people call it a neighborhood Walmart because it’s more neighborhood based and a great place to stop and grab something quick. Dollar General has grown quite rapidly in recent years. Currently, you can find one near you in central Maine in Augusta, Manchester, Lisbon, Auburn, and Lewiston.
With a slogan like “A Maine Adventure”, how can you go wrong with a trip to Reny’s. This store has grown steadily across Maine with a great selection of lifestyle products from clothing to food, and a perfect place to find Maine branded items. In central Maine, you can find a Reny’s in Farmington, Gardiner, Madison, and Pittsfield, with word from headquarters that a location in Augusta or Waterville might be on the horizon sometime soon.
The liquidation of Bell
Bell’s is one of those places where you can find amazing deals on restaurants and food service closures. This is the place to go if you have an extra freezer. They also always have a great selection of products. Going to Bell is a destination. With a single location on Rt. 17 in Chelsea, they are currently only open Wednesdays and Fridays.
